It was Farm Day for first grade! First graders learned about farm safety at Grimm Girl’s farm, they saw farm equipment and crops at Howard farms, and ended the day learning about the many hats of a farmer from Teresa and Levi Manche with Elliott farms.

Please join us in congratulating our next HES Red Hawk Hero. A Red Hawk Hero is someone who exhibits characteristics of a hero. Our next recipient is Gretchen Oldham, an amazing member of our third grade team! Here is Gretchen's nomination: Gretchen Oldham has an unique ability to look at both sides of an issue and give reasons for both. She makes compelling arguments that are rooted in facts and experiences with little personal bias. This type of teammate is irreplaceable. Her wealth of knowledge rooted in standards and best practices can be relied on to make the best decision for classrooms and students at Hiawatha Elementary School (and USD 415 as a district). She is always ON. She teaches as she walks down the hallway, through transitions, and at recess; modeling language, behaviors and routines. We are constantly striving to be more like her every day. She has been my unfailing sound board since 2007 and I would not be where I am today as a professional teacher without her guidance and support. I'd follow you anywhere!#RedHawks #HES #HESRedHawks #RedHawkHero
