Work Based Learning Spotlight: Brenna Ward, Finance Internship at Brobst Accounting LLC
This is a picture of me entering data entries into a new system. I also do some bookkeeping and organizing. I observe how Megan interacts with her customers and how she runs her business. Through this internship, I am hoping to learn more about accounting and finance, and I am also hoping to figure out if this is the career for me. So far, it has made me a lot more confident about my decision to major in Finance at Kansas State University next fall.

Work Based Learning Spotlight: Abby Elffner, Finance Internship at James Scherer’s CPA office
I have done a lot of observing and note taking over the first quarter and am starting to help more with small jobs. Being able to observe what all of the employees do has made me more confident in myself as I begin to complete tasks in the office. I chose this because this is what I am interested in doing in the future and wanted to get some on the job training to be sure that I am making the right choice. This experience has helped me to realize that accounting would be the perfect fit for my future occupation. I am so thankful that I have been given this opportunity.

Work Based Learning Spotlight: Samantha Klocke, Brown County Humane Society
I am going to the Humane Society for my SDS. My responsibilities while being out at my SDS is taking care of the dogs. I go in and first help pick up all the dogs dishes on the north side (which is the side I work on). I give them their food and water while David brings them inside. The dogs are always different so we have to make sure that we look white board that is on the front of their kennels.
If they do have meds then it will say when they get them or how many times a day. I am observing how to take good care of animals when it comes to needing their medicine. I really like working with animals and I want to do it in the future. My goals to achieve during the SDS is to learn more about animal care, like what meds do what for certain animals and why they take those meds and all sorts of stuff like that. I chose this SDS because I just really enjoy working with dogs.

Work Based Learning Spotlight: Brynn Williams, Teaching Internship- Hiawatha Elementary School
On my A days, I go to Jennifer Pyle's classroom, and then on my B days, I go to Ashlyn Riley's classroom. For my responsibilities in both classrooms, I do whatever tasks the teachers need me to do and then I help with any of the students that need help. I am observing how both of the teachers teach and their methods of teaching. My goal is to see if teaching is what I want to go into once I graduate. I chose this because I have always wanted to be a teacher and see if it is truly what I want to be. This is my second year with Mrs. Pyle and then I thought I would try another classroom so I chose second grade with Miss Riley.

Work Based Learning Spotlight: Graycen Ferris, Healthcare Workplace Experience: Rehab Visions
I have job shadowed at Rehabvisions for the past two years. I am pictured here with Adam Jahnel one of the physical therapists that I shadow. Adam is performing therapeutic ultrasound therapy on my arm. Ultrasounds can be used as a form of treatment. The electrical currents from the machine provide relief to injuries and decrease pain.
Next year I plan on majoring in Athletic Training and Rehab Science at K-State. Job shadowing has been very beneficial to me. I get to learn essential skills that are used in physical therapy. By gaining experience in this field, I am setting myself up for success in my intended profession

Work Based Learning Spotlight: Camden Thonen, Healthcare Workplace Expereince: Amberwell Hiawatha
I decided to follow both Mark Sudbeck in the physical therapy department, and Jodi Twombly who is a physician’s assistant in the hospital’s clinic. I am currently undecided on my future career, but I do know that I enjoy the concept of bettering others in their physical health. More specifically, I am passionate about the idea of helping those who actively want to better themselves. That is why I chose to follow professionals in two different career paths, because I want to figure out where in the medical field I would like to go, if at all. I want to narrow down what career path I would like to follow once I get to college, and I believe that observing these two will assist me in doing so.

Ninth graders recently toured HCC Tech in Atchison.

Work Based Learning Spotlight: Emma Entrikin, Healthcare Workplace Experience, Amberwell Hiawatha: Labor & Delivery
Very odd tool but used quite often! I can't take pictures of me doing anything with a patient in them, so here’s a tool I’ve seen being used frequently. It is called a catheter and is used in about 15% to 25% of patients. When OB isn’t busy I’m upstairs in the ER. I’m here every other day for about an hour and a half. I’m hoping what I see and learn will help me in the future when trying to become a nurse! I would absolutely love to work down in the OB department and coming here for school has just made me want to work for it even harder! Even in just a short amount of time, I have been able to see quite a bit. I absolutely love being able to connect with the workers and patients here.
