Hiawatha High School Parent Teacher Conferences

Last week the 4th graders took a field trip to Mt. Hope Cemetery during art to learn the history and admire the artwork at the world famous Davis Memorial. While there they also learned the resting places of several notable Hiawathians like Governor Morrill (13th Governor of Kansas), T.H. Korthanke (the man responsible for the maple trees in Hiawatha), and Elizabeth Krebs (founder of the Hiawatha Halloween Parade).
Students then drew the memorial and will use the knowledge gained for a future project where they will design a work of art that reflects the town’s history.

The HHS JAGK students decided for their first major PBL they wanted to focus on Community Service. Their PBL- Taking Pride in Our School, got everyone
involved. Students tightened the new benches at the football field, spruced up
the area under the score board, weeded the sand pits, edged the sidewalks,
around the football field, and the sidewalks in front of the school. Students also
repaired the roof at the gate booth and painted poles near our AG building. The
students felt great pride in the work they put in around the school!

JAG K students recently took a business tour of Hiawatha Nutrition. Students
learned how the owners went from being customers to owning their own
business. They answered questions on how they started the process and what
works best as a small business in our community. Of course, students were able to get a small drink to try out as well :) Thank you to Winter and Harley for
allowing us the opportunity.
