Congratulations to Joel Bryan & Sidney Johansen, recipients of the Paul E. Rockey Memorial Scholarship! These scholarships are awarded to a senior baseball player and a senior softball player in memory of Paul E. Rockey, who graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1973. Paul was active in the Hiawatha Community as the president of the Hiawatha Sons of American Legion Squadron Post 66. In addition, he ran the Hiawatha Baseball Program, coached and managed American Legion Baseball for over 25 years, and was groundskeeper for Noble Baseball Park. He also established a local Major League Wiffleball organization. On October 6, 2018, Noble Baseball Park was renamed “Paul Rockey Field” in his honor.

Alice Dickinson Fahrendorff Scholarship was established in memory of Alice Dickinson Fahrendorff, a 1944 graduate of Hiawatha High School. Alice and husband Raleigh (Rolly) shared a desire to promote opportunities for self-advocacy and saw education as an investment in one’s future. This year’s recipient of the Fahrendorff/Dickinson Scholarship is Sidney Johansen!
Congratulations to Jacob Rieger! He was the recipient of the Powhattan American Legion Post #373 Scholarship. This scholarship is given based on the belief that education can and will promote a better America.
