Work Based Learning Spotlight: Micah Oldham, graphic design My name is Micah Oldham and my workplace experience is involved with Graphic Design. For my workplace experience I stay at the school and help with various technology aspects around the school such as: using the video board outside the office for daily announcements, the scorers table used for basketball games, and making designs for our t-shirt shop! I am supervised by Mrs. Lindstrom who gives me various projects to work on around the school. I really enjoy helping around the school which is why this workplace experience has been so influential to me!

Work Based Learning Spotlight: Adison Williams, Hiawatha Elementary School For my workplace experience I go to the elementary school and I intern with Miss Ashlyn Riley!! When I go, I do things like read to them, help them with their work, and spend time with the students at recess! I love this experience because I get to learn about the students and build connections with them.

Congratulations to our HES Character Kids who showed characteristics of the November character word- Teamwork. Grade level teachers chose one boy and one girl from their grade level who exemplified the character trait! Each student received a certificate, $5 gift card to McDonalds, and a Red Hawk character kids t-shirt! This recognition was made possible with a grant through The Foundation. Work Based Learning Spotlight: Alija Contreras, Beau Cheveux My name is Alija Contreras and my workplace experience class this year is at Beau Cheveux. I shadow Lucy Bradney, the owner. Here are some of the items she sells and what I purchased from her salon in this photo. They are ideal for my hair, plus she has a ton of other hair-related things. I decided to job shadow in order to gain a better grasp of the workings of a cosmetologist. I've always wanted to job shadow a cosmetologist and watch her do what she does, like working her magic, and letting these women leave the salon happy. I'd like to continue doing hair, makeup, nails, lashes, eyebrows, tans, and other hair and makeup services, so having someone point me in that direction is really exciting for what this career path may bring. I watch her mainly do hair, such as cutting it shorter, coloring hair, and thinning it out. This allows me to make more educated judgments on my future route as I watch and observe her in the field I want to pursue when I'm older. I also get to discover how she got to where she is now and what she did to accomplish her career goals so I know what to do.
