Congratulations to our Kansas Honors Scholars. These students academically rank in the top ten percent of their class. This program is designed to promote academic excellence in secondary education, to reward high school seniors for their hard work & dedication.

This week in Mrs. Coulter’s Technology class the 3rd and 4th grade students took a step back in time. The Oregon Trail is a computer game originally developed by Don Rawitsch, Bill Heinemann, and Paul Dillenberger in 1971 and produced by MECC in 1974. They played The Oregon Trail game from 1990. Mrs. Coulter explained that technology has changed throughout the years.
After playing, the classes compared and contrasted The Oregon Trail with the games that they usually play. The first thing each group noticed was the difference in pixelation. They struggled with not using the mouse, and were astonished that many computers from the 1970s did not have a mouse! The students noticed that you had to read more on this game!
There are a few sites online where you can play this game for free. Mrs. Coulter hopes that some of the parents find this game and play it with their child! #HESRedHawks #RedHawkReady

Ms. Courtney's class talked pretended to be scientists again. We talked about solids and liquids. We did an experiment to see what happens to ice when you put it in water. #HESRedHawks #RedHawkReady

Mrs. Runer’s class enjoyed “Monday Seat Mix-Up Day” today! They have worked hard at proving they are safe, respectful and responsible students and as a reward, they got to sit wherever they wanted today, using whatever flexible seat they chose! Way to go, Mrs. Runer’s kids! #HESRedHawks #RedHawkReady

HHS JV football game against Holton scheduled for Monday 9/30 has been cancelled.

Ms. Heather's preschool class read the Little Red Hen. Unlike in the story we all helped make the bread (using a bread machine) then enjoy it the following day. We were able to use our sense of sight - watching the machine mix the ingredients and knead the dough
sound - hear the machine and make the bread so we would know when to watch
Smell - of baking bread
Taste - enjoying the bread as a class (students also got to use fine motor skills spreading their choice of butter, peanut butter or jelly)
Touch - describing what the bread felt like.
This was a fun activity that everyone enjoyed! #HESRedHawks #RedHawkReady #APlusKan
