Walking Field Trip to the Traffic Light!
HMS 7th & 8th Grade students in Mr. Hampl's Current Event class went on a walking field trip to the traffic signal light at the intersection of 1st & Oregon streets. Students timed the wait time for a safe crossing & had to wait nearly two minutes each time. We have been closely following regional & state media coverage of this issue. Students designed persuasive posters about the KDOT "road diet" proposal. The vast majority of students wanted to keep a traffic light and have a dedicated "walk" signal.
Congratulations to our HES Character Kids who showed characteristics of the February character word- Fairness. Grade level teachers chose one boy and one girl from their grade level who exemplified the character trait! Each student received a certificate, $5 gift card to Hiawatha Creamery, and a Red Hawk character kids t-shirt! This recognition was made possible with a grant through The Foundation.

A group of HHS students toured Bellus Academy on March 1.
A group of HHS l toured Washburn Tech on February 26th. The group saw many opportunities available to them: including welding, auto body, auto mechanics, HVAC, Electrical, Cabinetry, and Culinary.
